Onward Into Night

She said she’s lost in all this time and doesn’t know where she’s going

I said that may be but I know exactly where you are

 

She said the journey seems too far and the road is overgrown

I said you know how to lift your foot and take your next step

 

I’ll show you death, I’ll show you love

We’ll walk through those old neighborhoods where we grew up

You’ll show me life, you’ll show me time

We won’t know where we’re going until we arrive

 

In this cycle without end I said I’d try to find the start

She said don’t try too hard because the truth might break your heart

 

I’ll look for apples in the hills and track the lambs that got away

I’ll listen for God’s poetry in every word you say

 

Our paths will lead from shore to peak

Somewhere along the way we’ll find exactly what we seek

We’ll take the leap from the highest height

And land in outstretched hands that lead us onward into night
